This excerpt is taken from the Coo-coo princess scene in Act One where the Engineer seeks out Kim to reunite her with Thuy who is now Commissar of the North Vietnamese army. She is betrothed to Thuy and reveals to him her Buddoi son: the son of an American and Thuy tries to kill Kim's son, Tam. In her attempt to protect Tam from harm, Kim shoots Thuy and kills him.
